Be More You
The moment has passed. I have many draft essays that will never be distributed. Written during some moment of piqued passion, the topic falls flat when I return to it, even a few days later. My attention is fickle. Issues can have their moment too. I've had my share of "great ideas" encounter disinterest from potential implementers because they lacked a sense of urgency to them, at least then. All of Foresight's current clients have hired us to help them explore and pursue their future direction in some form. Desire for a concrete strategy and sense of apparent certainty is understandable but, particularly these days, misguided. More useful is learning to better know and be true(r) to themselves, beyond the well-crafted verbiage of mission/vision statements. Trusting oneself can be a struggle, even for well-established entities (and grown adults!) whether nonprofits or foundations. The previous incarnation of Foresight evolved regularly in response to market shifts and because we were part of an emergent sector. With the National Unraveling, stability of even entrenched arenas has evaporated. Becoming nimbler isn't the only imperative, doing so without sacrificing those inherent key qualities is essential, because trying to be someone or something else is the first step toward failure. My focus tends to shift, sometimes multiple times within minutes. But my fundamental drive to learn how to better make things better, has remained constant across minutes, days and years. While I may wrestle to decide what resonates enough to write about, the direction is always the same: ahead.
