Prometheus Unbound

Warnings abound. My niece lectures my mother, as if stories about the perils of unregulated AI aren't pervasive. She heard I had recently created three different website prototypes for my mother; a task AI did in a fraction of the time it would have taken me. Trained in writing, design and having created many websites, I know how to navigate the process. Using this new technology without such judgment is where one set of problems begin. There are others, beyond my comprehension, that can do more damage and have. When I hear about such incursions, one thought comes to mind: where are the humans, both in terms of monitoring these "agents" activity, and the ones responsible for setting them in motion? Individual responsibility seems to have been subverted long ago. At one point during my AI coaching with Carl from Mindteam, he asked, "what are a few areas that you would never like to have AI involved?" The question took me by surprise during a session focused on using AI more! But it's worth considering before engaging The Machine, as my business partner calls it. My socially aware Millennial niece is understandably concerned. When the two co-hosts of the AI podcast Hard Fork, both highly experienced and respected tech reporters, continually espouse warnings, that gets my attention. For me, it's a powerful tool the capabilities of which I'm still learning, albeit with no plans for world domination. That said, next week's installment will contradict my initial response to Carl's question for the first and only time. You can be the judge.
